Making the most of waste
Waste management is an essential challenge in Asia with a growing urban population. Increasingly, focus is on extracting value from waste in a circular economy and as waste-to-energy. In 1978, Denmark introduced the world’s first law on recycling. Now, Denmark is a world leader in waste sorting, recycling and energy recovery. The national prioritization of recycling means that less than 5% of waste is disposed in landfills. The largest sources of energy in Denmark are biomass, followed by waste and wind.
