The Jurong Island Innovation Challenge (JIIC) is an initiative led by Enterprise Singapore (ESG) and JTC to bring together startups and SMEs to tackle the challenges faced by Jurong Island companies and the broader energy and chemicals industry.
Background
In line with Singapore Green Plan 2030, the JIIC aims to develop Jurong Island into a sustainable energy and chemicals park. The initiative enables innovators to collaborate, co-develop and test novel solutions on energy, water, and chemical waste surrounded the island.
JIIC is a follow-up to the Jurong Island Circular Economy (JICE) study that JTC embarked on in 2019 with 51 Jurong Island companies and multiple government agencies' support. The current JIIC aims to scale up sustainable solutions on the Island through innovative ideas from startups and SMEs.
Challenge Statements
The JIIC is seeing solutions covering four focus areas:
Energy management: Reduce the carbon footprint of industrial processes
Emissions reduction: Enhance industrial energy efficiency and recovery of waste heat from plant processes
Water management: Recover resources to reduce the amount of industrial waste to be sent for treatment or incineration
Waste management: Reduce consumption of fresh water for industrial use through water recovery and reuse
